Before You Arrive- Pre-Trip Activities for Teachers

 

Students are excited about their trip to Foothill Horizons Outdoor School. In addition to making time to answer student’s questions, try some of the ideas listed below. Share your success or your students’ work on the Foothill Horizons Teacher’s Facebook Page.

STUDENT SURVEY

Have students take our 5-10 minute pre-trip survey.

FOOTHILL YOUTUBE VIDEOS
If you have 5 minutes during a transition time or want to reward those who finish their work early, go to the Foothill Shorts youtube channel (for videos such as "El Rey Eats" and "A Day in the Life of a Sixth Grader") or the Songs of Foothill youtube channel (for videos of naturalists singing kids favorite outdoor ed songs).

LITERATURE

Read a storybook or dive into a chapter book. Read Literature Related to the Foothill Experience / (PDF Version) for more information.

STUDENT RESEARCH

Have students research a plant, animal or other organism found at Foothill. This could be a short project or a longer project, including a presentation or report. Read Student Research Projects (PDF Version) for more information.

CITIZEN SCIENCE & PHENOLOGY: Have your students collect scientific data and upload it to Project Budburst. Watch this Video to learn more. Get your students started by having them fill out a Tree Phenology Report Card / (PDF Version).
